2025 Australian Western Makers Expo – Prize Money & Awards
At the Australian Western Makers Expo, it’s not only about the prestige of taking home a buckle or sash — it’s also about recognising and rewarding the incredible skill of our makers. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, the 2026 Expo will feature prize money and awards that are bigger than ever before.
Sponsored Categories
The cornerstone events of Saddles and Rawhide will each offer $300 for the Champion and $150 for the Runner Up, alongside a coveted tri-sash and buckle. This represents more than double last year’s payout, ensuring the dedication and artistry of these trades are duly celebrated.
General Categories
All other categories with three or more entries will be eligible for cash prizes of $150 for Champion and $100 for Runner Up, with sashes awarded to recognise excellence across the board.
Special Awards
Beyond category competition, the Expo also shines a spotlight on creativity and presentation with a series of special awards:
-
Judges’ Choice Award – recognising standout craftsmanship
-
Highly Commended Awards – honoring exceptional entries across categories
-
People’s Choice Award – voted on by the attending public/online
-
Best Presented Vendor Stall – acknowledging excellence in presentation and display.
Encouraging the Next Generation - Youth Award
In 2025, the Expo is especially proud to support young makers. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of The Congress, competitors under 18 will have the opportunity to win a dedicated incentive of $150 in prize money plus a merchandise pack. This initiative is designed to encourage and reward the next generation of Western tradespeople as they develop their craft.
New for 2026 - Annual Excellence Award
In 2026, we have introduced the Inaugural Excellence Award.
Sponsored by Australian Western Makers, the highest scoring saddle maker across all categories will receive a beautiful prize, and their name/year on a stunning timber trophy plaque. For years to come, names will be recognised and celebrated!
With increased prize money, wider recognition, and opportunities for makers of all ages, the 2025 Australian Western Makers Expo promises to be a true celebration of skill, tradition, and innovation in our industry.
